Dr. Tyler J. Murphy is a Resident in General Surgery at Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC). He received his Bachelor of Sciences in Biology with minors in Chemistry and Political Science, and honors certificate in Neuropharmacology from Oglethorpe University in Atlanta, GA. Prior to medical school, Tyler worked as a research assistant at the University of Florida College of Medicine (UFCOM) in Gainesville, FL as part of the Sepsis and Critical Illness Research Center. He continued his studies at UFCOM and completed his Doctor of Medicine in 2021 subsequently matriculating into the General Surgery residency program at VUMC in the same year. Following the PGY3 year of his residency, Tyler joined the CIBS center as a T32 post-doctoral research fellow in 2024. Tyler plans to pursue a career in trauma and burn surgery as well as surgical critical care following his completion of his general surgery residency. In addition to his clinical practice, he plans to continue to complete meaningful research with focus placed on long-term trajectories and outcomes of patients after critical illness and the utility of artificial intelligence and machine learning to improve patient outcomes.
